Haus of Gloi Fall Part II 2020 Review

It’s well known that indies own Autumn. No one does spooky, pumpkin spicy, and cozy fall scents better than indie brands, particularly Haus of Gloi. I had the opportunity to try out some wonderful new fall fragrances from their Fall Part II collection. Having already reviewed their notoriously amazing Yule collection, I was so excited to jump into their fall offerings.

Pumpkin Butters

Haus of Gloi makes my all-time favorite body butter formula. It’s perfect for the change of seasons from fall to winter, as they’re extremely hydrating. They’re called pumpkin butter because they’re made with unrefined pumpkin seed oil. They’re also rich with shea butter for deep hydration. Not too heavy or greasy, these are definitely made for relieving dry skin.  Each batch of the HoG Pumpkin Butter is made from scratch, like all of their other goodies.

Pumpkin Patch

Brand Scent Description: Dried leaves, twisted vines, orange pumpkins, golden amber and earth.

Overall: This smells like a big bowl of hot oatmeal with pumpkin and sweet honey. It’s not a gourmand in description but it certainly smells like one to me. I find that a lot of Haus of Gloi fragrances lean in the gourmand direction, which I prefer for bath and body products as opposed to perfumes.  Either way, I smell like an actual snack after using this, and I love it.

Spider Silk

Brand Scent Description: Procured from a dream: delicate water mint, wispy grey musk, crystalline webs of amber, oakmoss, torchwood, copaiba resin, and a touch of withered violet leaf.

Overall: This came off as far more floral than I initially expected from this scent. It might work much better as a perfume rather than a bath or body product. The floral is too intense for me to have this fragrance all over my body in the form of a lotion.

Room and Linen Spray

I haven’t tried the Haus of Gloi Room and Linen Sprays yet, but as soon as I posted about it on instagram, so many people replied with how much they loved these. I can see why! These mists can be used on sofas, curtains, linens, laundry, and more. The scent isn’t too strong but is enough to add a lovely scent to a room. I’ve been misting this on my clothes before packing them up to travel so I can enjoy the lovely smell when I unpack. The only limitation is to not spray these on your eyes or pets.

Haus of Gloi Linen Spray

Blood Orange Marshmallow

Brand Scent Description: Rich blood orange and fluffy white marshmallows.

This smells incredibly like a creamsicle. I grew up in New Jersey and spent every summer on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk. There are Kohr’s Frozen Custard Stands that have orange and vanilla twist soft serve. It’s totally unique and wonderful, and this spray reminds me of it.

Side note: Upon further research I’ve found that Kohr’s Frozen Custard has expanded outside of the New Jersey coast into Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.

Perfume Oils

Cozy Pumpkin

Brand Scent Description: Fresh pumpkin and our ever popular Cozy Sweater blended together for fall time coziness.

First Impression: From first sniff, I instantly love this. The pumpkin note is very natural and realistic, versus the synthetic pumpkin fragrances I come across. Blended with the Haus of Gloi classic Cozy Sweater, this just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Overall: This is an excellent Fall scent that isn’t over the top but still very seasonal. The pumpkin isn’t overpowering, and cozy sweater is such a beautiful scent by itself.  This is warm, cozy, and pumpkin spicy in the best way.

Wear Time and Throw: This has a medium throw and wears for a long time.

If you’re new here, I add a gif to every fragrance review I do 😉

Golden Corn Cakes

Brand Scent Description: Corn cake baked to a golden perfection, topped with butter and honey.

First Impression: This is definitely more of an aggressively sweet gourmand. It’s sadly in the ‘too sweet for me’ category when it comes to fragrances.

Overall:  This is so intensely sweet that it’s just not for me. Once, I wore a gourmand like this and had my co-workers calling me “short stack” for the rest of the day (lovingly) because I smelled so much like pancakes. I feel like this would have a similar effect.

Wear Time and Throw: This has a very strong throw and lasts a very long time. Apply sparingly!

Mama’s Porridge

Brand Scent Description: Brown sugar sweetened oatmeal with a splash of milk and a piece of buttery cinnamon sugar dusted toast.

First Impression: Let me start by saying that just the description of this fragrance made my mouth water.  I was worried this would be overly gourmand and too sweet, but it’s lovely. The cinnamon is intense right off the bat, with just a bit of sweetness from the milk and oatmeal notes.

Overall: Haus of Gloi has a way of making gourmands that are super realistic without being too sweet to wear. This smells amazing, like warm cinnamon and baking bread. This is a wrist-sniffer: I can’t stop bringing my wrist to my nose to get another sniff throughout the day when I wear this.

Wear Time and Throw: This has a medium throw but lasts a long time. The cinnamon note really hangs on!

Samhain II

Brand Scent Description: Freshly turned earth, wet leaves, and a cool specter ridden wind!

First Impression: Right off the bat, this smells like a hayride. The earth notes are so realistic, I can picture the fresh soil and damp grass.

Overall: This smells like a forest after rain, with hints of petrichor. It’s an intensely environmental and natural fragrance, which I’m all about as a super earthy person. (taurus sun, Virgo moon!)

Wear Time and Throw: This is more intense than most atmospheric earthy fragrances I’ve tried, so apply sparingly. It has a large throw and lasts all day.

Apple Milk

Brand Scent Description: Apple pulp, hot milk and cardamom.

First Impression: Wow. This smells so realistic, I can almost hear the crunch of a juicy, crisp apple as I bite into it. The spice is so delicious, too.

Overall: As this wears, it becomes a lovely apple spice scent. Even though it’s such a gourmand, I’d be okay smelling like an orchard. It’s just the perfect apple spice fragrance for Fall.

Wear Time and Throw: This has an intense throw so apply sparingly. It lasts very long, too. As the initial apple notes fade, the spice and vanilla milk notes remain. The apple note does last longer than expected.

Winter Divinity

Brand Scent Description: Sugary white vanilla divinity with a surprising jolt of peppermint.

First Impression: Right off the bat, this smells exactly like the Bath and Body Works scents Twisted Peppermint, which was always my favorite. It’s a classic vanilla and peppermint candy cane scent.

Overall: I love this scent. I’m not a big Christmas person but I love all pepperminty scents like this one. This would be especially wonderful in bath and body products, particularly the pumpkin butter!

Wear Time and Throw: This has a decent throw but like most vanilla based fragrances, it doesn’t last super long.  After a few hours you have to reapply.

The Horseman

Brand Scent Description: Autumn woods, worn leather, warm musk, and a distant thread of woodsmoke.

First Impression:  I can instantly tell that this is a fragrance I’ll love. It smells like burning dragon’s blood incense and wood fire.

Overall: This has the scent of the witchy bookshop of my teenage years, as previously mentioned in this post. It’s a combination of musky cologne, dragon’s blood, incense, and leather. I love it. As it warms into the skin it becomes more musk and less intense incense. It’s a very sexy and masculine scent.

Wear Time and Throw: This has a very intense throw so use sparingly. It wears for a long time, with the leather and musk notes lingering the longest.

Snow Wolf

Brand Scent Description: Bristling and prowling, lonesome and haunting. Three howling firs, white frankincense, vanilla bean husk, tainted by droplets of blood cedar

First Impression: The evergreen fir scent is the most prominent right away. This smells like resinous pine and cedar right off the bat. I love it.

Overall: This is Christmas in scent form. It smells so natural and close to a pine forest. The vanilla note is much more earthy than most. It does have an animalistic musk to it that matches the concept of the fragrance.

Wear Time and Throw: This has a medium throw and wear time. As the scent fades, the vanilla and musk remain and the resinous pine notes fade quickly.
