This serum got its name because its multitude of active and powerful ingredients target many skin concerns at once gently and effectively. As a serum, it’s at the top of the class, taking care of a myriad of concerns in a few minutes. With this serum, there’s no need to layer a bunch of expensive products and risk disastrous results. This product simplifies your routine and looks pretty doing it.
Also known as the ‘instant overnight facial’ this product brightens your face and smooths your complexion in minutes, and continues to tighten and hydrate while you sleep. With continued results, this serum fades dark spots, evens out your complexion, and smooths fine lines.
Glomance is an indie brand based out of New York City. Their founders have experience working in beauty and skincare product development, so they took their expertise to apply it to their own brand! They worked with a team of skincare professionals over the span of 18 months to develop this serum to ensure that it was the best it could possibly be. Overnight Star is their first product ever, and they plan to release more soon (we can’t wait!).
The founders are dedicated to self-care and mental health, so 1% of their profits go to organizations that support women around the world experiencing mental health issues.
Glomance is 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten free.
This serum makes a lot of claims, but they have the ingredients, actives, and results to back it up. It’s the perfect balance of effective but gentle, and hydrates as much as it exfoliates and smoothes. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty details of all the superpowers of the Overnight Star.
One of the main superpowers of Overnight Star is that it lightens hyperpigmentation, scarring, and dark spots. High-potency lactic acid exfoliates and encourages skin cell turnover, while prickly pear extract removes free radicals to fade pigmentation and dark spots. This creates an even, glowing complexion.
Lactic acid is one of the most gentle yet effective exfoliators out there, which is why I love it. It’s one of Overnight Star’s key ingredients, sloughing away dead skin cells to reveal a healthier, brighter complexion.
This serum targets visible pores, fine lines, and wrinkles as you sleep, using vitamin A + C-packed lemongrass and wrinkle-fighting prickly pear extract. Overnight Star even stops wrinkles before they form by encouraging increased cell renewal and fighting free radicals.
One of the best qualities of Overnight Star is that the active ingredients are balanced with gentle, hydrating ingredients that plump the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a gentle ingredient that helps your skin pull in moisture and retain it for supple, glowing skin. Aloe is also one of the best hydrators for your skin. It soothes any inflammation and gives you the best glow ever!
The Overnight Star serum smooths and plumps the skin. The gentle exfoliation from the lactic acid ensures that the texture of your skin is completely free of texture. Licorice firms the skin through naturally easing inflammation
Overnight Star is packed with powerful ingredients that target a multitude of skin issues, making it a powerhouse serum. What I love about this serum is how the powerful actives are balanced with gentle, hydrating ingredients to ensure the skin stays plump and healthy.
Lactic acid is a chemical exfoliant that’s favored for being ultra-effective while still being gentle. It breaks up the bond between dead skin cells without the harsh abrasiveness of traditional exfoliators such as scrubs. It’s always important to gently cleanse your skin when you wake up after using this product to wash away all the dead skin cells to reveal a glowing complexion!
Lactic Acid is naturally produced by your body’s muscles and red blood cells and released when exercising. The kinds we use in skincare are derived from dairy but there are vegan alternatives derived from sugary foods like fermented beets and corn. The lactic acid in Glomance Overnight Star is 100% vegan and cruelty free, and totally effective!
As anyone with dry skin will tell you, hyaluronic acid is a lifesaver. It’s a humectant, which means it naturally draws moisture into the skin and locks it in place. This leaves your skin feeling plumper and more hydrated, which instantly removes the appearance of fine lines.
Prickly Pear Extract is super popular in skincare, and for a good reason! This cactus naturally fights off free-radicals.
Good question! Without getting too deep into chemistry, a free radical is any atom with an unpaired electron orbiting it. While most atoms have a set number of electrons in their outer shell, some don’t, which makes them unstable. These unstable atoms, also known as free radicals, float around looking to latch onto stable atoms, which can break them down over time. Free radicals can be formed through air pollution, exposure to certain chemicals, smoking, and processed foods. They cause a host of issues, one of them being premature aging in skin.
Sorry for the science talk, I just feel it’s my duty to include some background info when terms like “free radicals” are thrown out – at Indie Mood we try and make sure we make claims that are backed up by research and science 🙂
Aloe has been used for centuries to sooth the skin and treat common ailments like sunburn. It has vitamins A and C as well as antioxidants that make it naturally soothing, hydrating, and anti-inflammatory.
Licorice Root has a ton of uses, but in skincare, this ingredient naturally eases inflammation, making skin more glowy. It’s also used as a natural way to lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Enzymes in licorice can help protect from harmful UV rays due to sun exposure, but still always wear sunscreen every day!
As someone with chronically dry skin and eczema, I proceed with caution when it comes to exfoliants of any kind. I’ve gone overboard with acids and actives before which has left me with dry, red, irritated skin. Nevertheless, lactic acid has become a favorite of mine because it’s so gentle.
I’m a texture freak when it comes to skincare, and I love the way this product feels. It’s super lightweight and seems to sink into the skin as soon as you apply it. It’s a creamier texture but isn’t heavy at all. You only need a tiny bit, too, so a bottle of the product should last a long time.
I started out by patch-testing the serum to make sure there wasn’t any instant reaction. As someone with sensitive skin, I’ve become accustomed to trying this with any new product I add into my routine. After that, I incorporated it into my skincare routine 3 nights a week to start.
I was pleasantly surprised that the serum didn’t sting at all when I applied it. I’ve found that almost all acid serums burn my skin a bit, especially around the most sensitive spots around my nose and mouth. At a certain point, even very gentle moisturizers were burning my skin and causing redness. After speaking to a dermatologist about the issue, I was told that the moisture barrier of my skin was damaged. Also known as the stratum corneum, the moisture barrier is the outermost layer of skin cells that constantly regenerates and helps the skin maintain moisture and elasticity. When that’s damaged, even the most gentle products can burn the skin. I had to restrain from using any actives for a while after that, and for the most part, my skin has been great lately.
That being said, I’m extremely cautious now when incorporating a new product, especially one with active ingredients and actives. I’ve had absolutely no issues with the Overnight Star serum. I’ve slowly moved from using it 3 nights a week to every other night with no problems or stinging whatsoever. However, everyone’s skin is different. You should always patch test and slowly incorporate new products into your routine.
I saw the plumping effects immediately, which is likely thanks to the hyaluronic acid and aloe. It made my skin feel fresh and supple, even before I put on my moisturizer. My girlfriend tried it, too, as I’ve dragged her into the skincare world, and she really liked it as well! More tangible effects like smoother texture and even skin tone were noticeable to me after a few uses in the first week. Overall, it’s pretty impressive pretty quickly, which is how it got’s it name!
This product totally lives up to its name and claim to be an instant overnight facial. My favorite thing about this serum is that it’s not just effective, but it’s also gentle and hydrating. I’ve been using it without any dryness and irritation, and that’s not common when it comes to serums with active ingredients in them. I look forward to seeing how it work with hyperpigmentation over extended use.
