As soon as I saw this collection, I was instantly thrilled. I’ve grown to love vanilla as a fragrance note for all it’s variations and how it adapts to the notes that surround it. Vanilla can be cupcake sweet or dark and morose, and everything in-between. Poesie calls this collection a “study in vanilla”, and each of the 6 scents is a different combination of notes with their unique vanilla, along with an antique lace accord. Without further ado, here are the reviews of all six scents from this collection.
Brand Description: Intoxicating white lilacs and a hint of the sweet smell of old books blend with the crystalline smell of our Vanille accord, an airy but rich note similar to pure vanilla extract. An antique lace accord underpins it all, adding an ivory-tinged warmth with hints of faded florals and sweet vanilla. The feeling is elegant, haunting and impossibly romantic.
First Impression: I can smell a floral death note right away, the kind that smells like powdery babies.
Final Review / Lasting Time: As it warms into the skin, the floral evens out and you can smell a more standard vanilla. There is an antique sense to this, almost a dustiness along with the lilacs. If you’ve ever read the book The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, this is how I imagine the front porch of the Mayfair Witch’s victorian home in the Garden District of New Orleans. The longer it wears, the more floral and green it smells. I’m not into florals, but if you are, this is a nice one. It has a good throw and lasts about 6 hours on my skin.
Brand Description: Three vanillas — rich, creamy and airy — are lashed with deep amber honey and blended with an antique lace accord which adds an ivory-tinged warmth with hints of faded florals and vanilla. The effect is an enveloping sweetness that has a velvety, plush texture and comforting softness.
First Impression: Out of the bottle its somehow syrupy sweet but not overpowering at the same time.
Final Review / Lasting Time: This is the one that smells most like straight vanilla extract. I absolutely love this kind of vanilla, it reminds me of when you add that teaspoon of vanilla to whatever you’re baking and the scent just fills the room for a moment. This is a velvety scent, almost like a dessert liquor. If you don’t like 100% sweet scents, this might not for you. It’s sweet, but again, not gourmand at all. This is also the most “vanilla” vanilla of the bunch.
Brand Description: Bright, sweet-tart, and lemony. Everything a lemon scent should be. Swirl it into the airy vanilla extract note of our Vanille accord, add a dash of ivory-tinged antique lace, and you have a magical combination. A gourmand, but not sugary. A citrus, but soft. Light, clean, fluffy, perfect.
First Impression: This smells very faint out of the bottle. I don’t know why but I feel like I can barely smell this.
Final Review / Lasting Time: This dries down faint as well. I can smell a bit of lemon and vanilla faintly. All the other scents in this collection are so intense, so I have no idea why this one is the exception.
Brand Description: Fizzy pink champagne cascades over juicy, tart strawberries. This fresh and bubbly duo takes center stage until the drydown when the airy vanilla extract note of our Vanille accord pairs with the ivory-tinged warmth of antique lace and lingering notes of sweet berries. Irresistible, irrepressible, and not to be missed!
First Impression: This is immediately so good and mouth watering. The Champagne note is so realistic it almost smells fizzy. The strawberries are there but not sickly sweet at all.
Final Review / Lasting Time: This is definitely an unexpected favorite. I would describe this as a fancy summer wedding in Victorian England. I’m imagining fruit tarts, clinking flutes filled with pink Champagne, and the faint smell of flowers in the breeze. The Vanilla is on the back burner of this scent, which is totally ok. The fruitiness doesn’t smell synthetic like candy, but like actual fresh fruit. It has a good throw and lasts about 6 hours on my skin.
Brand Description: Complex and mysterious palo santo opens and is cloaked in the smoky haze of burning cedar wood, then underpinned by the airy vanilla extract note of our Vanille accord. As it fades, it reveals an antique lace accord that adds an ivory-tinged warmth with hints of faded florals and sweet vanilla. Let it wrap you in a diaphanous veil that protects as it uplifts.
First Impression: I’m instantly in love, fresh out of the bottle. I smell smokey woods at first, dark and sweet at the same time.
Final Review / Lasting Time: This is a total hit for me. It smells just like Palo Santo, which is a comforting scent for me, because I often cleanse my space by burning pieces of the wood. The dark wood scents and smokiness mixed with vanilla is just beautiful. This a simple but deep scent. It has good throw and lasts about 6-8 hours on my skin.
Brand Description: Deep, rich tobacco leaves mingle with those of the finest black tea. Itâs impossible to tell where one begins and the other ends Youâll keep smelling, playing hide and seek with the notes, finding it an addictive game. Underneath it all — the airy vanilla extract note of our Vanille accord and an antique lace accord that adds an ivory-tinged warmth with hints of faded florals and sweet vanilla. This is the darkest, most intoxicating Lace of all.
First Impression: Black tea and sweet tobacco are the first notes as the scent is drying. As it dries you can smell almost a woody, earthy smell, mixed with the sweetest non-gourmand vanilla. This vanilla is more like a musk than anything.
Final Review / Lasting Time: This takes vanilla and makes it sexy and dark. Tobacco and vanilla are one of my favorite combinations. This is an awesome every day scent for someone like me, that loves “masculine” or more unisex scents that are still sweet. This is very specific, but this scent reminds me of waking up next to someone you love and nuzzling your head into their shoulder. It’s cozy and sexy, but not light at all. It’s a very warm scent. It has a good throw and lasts about 6 hours on my skin.
I also tested out two other Poesie scents that I’ve never tried, so I thought I’d include my reviews on those here as well.
Brand Description: A strongly brewed cup of Earl Grey tea delicately infused with all natural lavender absolute, sweetened with vanilla syrup, and lightened with a splash of milk
First Impression: Earl Grey tea is my favorite tea in the world, and the scent of dried bergamot peels and black tea is the first thing I smell out of the bottle. I’m already in love.
Final Review / Lasting Time: If I could smell only one perfume for the rest of my life, it would probably be this. The notes meld together to form the most perfect cup of Earl Grey with a splash of milk. This has decent throw; if someone were to hug you when you’re wearing this they’d be enveloped by this beautiful tea moment. It’s long lasting, and as the day goes on the lavender and vanilla creaminess take over. I love this scent and I’m so glad I impulsively purchased the larger size of this one.
Brand Description: A fluffy bouquet of lilac, heliotrope, and mimosa gathered on a long walk through fresh earth, grass and clover.
First Impression: Whoah, this smells like summer. A floral that I like?? What??? The first impression smells like such realistic grass and soil, like I’m laying in the grass in my backyard in the summer.
Final Review / Lasting Time: Dried down, I LOVE this! This is why I love reviewing perfumes, I always find something I love that I never expected. This smells like a big, green garden, buzzing with bees and bursting with colors from the flowers. The soil and grass make it so realistic. This has a good amount of throw, but isn’t overpowering at all. Usually florals instantly make my head pound, but this isn’t headachy at all. I adore this scent.
This is my first time trying Poesie, and I’m totally into this brand after trying all of these beauties. The fragrances seem super thoughtful and inspired to me. I feel like Poesie’s fragrances and a stroll through a Rococo art museum would make a great combination. I enjoy their aesthetic and collection inspirations, and hope to try much more from this brand!
*I purchased these perfumes. All opinions and ideas are my own.
